Two-A-Days: Saints marching for another state title run

20 teams in 20 nights, Two-A-Days on Fort Wayne’s NBC began Monday night, featuring the defending state champion Bishop Dwenger Saints.

Despite moving up to 5A, the Saints return 28 seniors to their roster, making the chances for a repeat look realistic.

“Over the last seven months, guys are stepping up,” Bishop Dwenger head coach Jason Garrett said at Northeast Indiana Media Day.

“It’s starting to remind me a lot of the group, last year.”

Bishop Dwenger isn’t counting the chicken before it’s hatched, however, the Saints know they have a clean slate like everybody else and must prove their worth come this Fall.

“Well, the goal every year is, obviously, to win state, but, at Dwenger, we take it day-by-day,” Saints linebacker Hayden Ellinger said.

Indiana commit Luke Wiginton knows the squad lost big-time talent from last year, but this senior class is more than ready to keep the tradition alive.

“We always say they come to hear us play,” Wiginton said.

“We want to play hard, hit hard.”

The Saints kick off their season in a sectional title rematch at Wayne, on Friday night, August 23 at 7 p.m.
