The Hoosiers (19-16) were making the best of their situation as a one seed in the NIT, but in came a perennial tourney team in six seed Wichita State, the Shockers eager to complete another upset, 73-63, at Assembly Hall.
Indiana’s senior leader went out with a bang, scoring a game-high 21 points to go with three blocks.
Little help came elsewhere, as the Hoosiers shot just 39 percent from the field and 54 percent from the free throw line.
Wichita State, meanwhile, knocked down 11 triples, five of which came from freshman Dexter Dennis.
“Our inability to get to the foul line and run good offense was the big difference,” Indiana head coach Archie Miller said after the loss.
“You look at the three-point shooting, and you look at the free throw discrepancy, and that’s a big deal, right there.”
Indiana’s 2018-2019 season comes to a close, after winning seven of eight games.
