FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – All eyes will be focused on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend as greatest spectacle in racing gears up.

Fort Wayne’s NBC is Focused on the Finish Line this week and bringing you racing stories that have a connection right here in the Fort.

One Fort Wayne racer turned business owner got his start in his garage, and eventually ended up selling oil to Indy 500 drivers.

John Klotz, the owner of Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, started as a go-kart racer and made his way up to stock car racing.

He found one of the best ways to make his ride go faster was to mix his own oil, and he quickly learned he was pretty good at it.

Other drivers started asking him for his special blend, and eventually, his oil made it into the engines of several Indy 500 cars.

That’s how his business took off, but he hit a roadblock 25 years ago with a cancer diagnosis.

Wednesday at 11 p.m., Sports Reporter Megan Salle will give you a look under the hood at Klotz Synthetic Lubricants, and explain how John Klotz made a big lifestyle change that he says saved his life.
