FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — In the Central Noble High School gym today, Meleah Leatherman signed to play basketball at the University of Saint Francis. Right now she plays a big role on her team, averaging 14 points a game with nine rebounds. According to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, the Cougars are currently the number one team in 2A.
Leatherman was drawn to Saint Francis because of it’s nursing program and it’s tight knit basketball team.
“It’s kind of like the family aspect. I always knew from the beginning they felt like family. Everyone was super friendly going in. I felt like I knew them all along. I had a lot of connections with the coaches. I felt like I knew them the longest and had the biggest connection the longest,” She said.
Saint Francis Head Coach, Jason Ridge, is impressed with her effort on the court at Central Noble.
“Her best quality that we love about her is that she competes on every play. She’s always diving on loose balls. She mixes it up for every rebound. She’s just a really nice player and she’s going to be a great player in our conference,” Ridge said.
On Friday, Central Noble will play West Noble at 6 p.m..
