POLICE: 5 children, 3 adults inside home targeted in shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Fort Wayne Police are working a shooting in the 4000 block of Reed Street.

Police were dispatched to the scene on the city’s southeast side just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers tell Fort Wayne’s NBC that two men wearing hoodies approached the home, that had five kids and three adults inside, and started shooting.

One woman in the home, identified as 35-year-old Jamika Martin, was hit in the leg and was taken to a hospital in serious condition. A man, identified as 37-year-old Demale Amos, was hit in the foot and was treated at the scene.

Police say after the two suspects went inside the home, they believe the homeowner started shooting back before the suspects fled. One suspect was shot and is said to have life-threatening injuries.

Rosales-Scatena said they are requesting surveillance video from houses in the area using the Ring Portal. She says they hope anyone with video will chose to share it with them.

FWPD is asking those who may have information to call them at 427-1201 or 436-STOP.
