Whitley County Sheriff’s Department K9 dies in crash

WHITELY COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Columbia City is morning the loss of a K9 who was killed in a fiery crash on US 30 Wednesday afternoon.

Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel says Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Archbold and his K9 partner Cas were involved in a crash late Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened on US 30 near 450 W, and K9 Cas died in the wreck.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Archbold, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, our Columbia City Police Officers, and the many people who grew to know and love Cas,” Mayor Daniel said.

Both lanes of traffic had to be closed as first responders worked the crash.
