Ohio first responders pull body from Maumee River

SHERWOOD, Ohio (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Someone walking along the Maumee River in Ohio discovered a body in the water Friday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., Defiance County Police said someone walking along the river near the Cecil bridge spotted a white male in the water.

Over an hour later, firefighters in a boat found the body near St. Rt. 127 Bridge near Sherwood, Ohio.

Both the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office and the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department have no reports of a missing person matching the description of the man pulled from the water.

Because the of the high water and close proximity to Indiana, Ohio authorities are working with Allen County for more leads.

An autopsy was ordered, and police are awaiting more details to come from that exam.

If you have any information that could help police identify the deceased, you’re asked to call the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office at 419-784-1155.
