1 injured in shooting near downtown, police investigating

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — One person is clinging to life at a Fort Wayne hospital after an armed robbery turned into a shootout near downtown.

According to a spokesperson with the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers were called to the scene of a shooting at SMS Property Management around 5:30 p.m. Friday. When they arrived they found one victim inside the business suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital where he is said to be in critical condition.

According to police, a male suspect attempted to rob the business and exchanged fire with the victim. At this time, police are not sure if the suspect was also injured.
