ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The polls are officially closed. The polls opened at 6 a.m. and closed at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Allen County, Fort Wayne, Grabill, New Haven, and Leo-Cedarville. There was no primary election this year for voters who are not within the city limits of any of the towns mentioned above. Allen County election officials say early voting totals came in at 2 percent, they are hoping for an overall turnout of 12 to 15 percent. In the municipal primaries four years ago, the overall turnout was just 9 percent, which was the lowest turnout in the state. Election officials are hoping for better returns this time around. “We’re happy to see this kind of turnout. But you know, a lot of times turnout depends on who’s on the ballot, and obviously, there’s a lot of excitement about this ballot. On both sides there are some real choices to make, and I think that is always something that brings people out to the polls,” Allen County Election Director Beth Dlug said. The highest turnout Allen County had for a similar election was back in 1999 when turnout was 20 percent. Here are the latest results:
