FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A former Fort Wayne Community Schools employee is facing sex crimes after prosecutors say he sent a nude photo to a student under his care and solicited sex from her.
Devin Gilliam, 28, is facing child solicitation and dissemination of matter harmful to children charges stemming from a report that he sent inappropriate messages to a student at North Side High School back in 2018.
He was a special education assistant at the time of the alleged crime.
According to a probable cause document filed on Wednesday, Fort Wayne Police were called to the high school on Aug. 16, 2018, to reports of a possible molesting by an employee.
The girl told the detective at the time that she knew Gilliam through a family member and had known him for several years.
He reportedly would escort her to class, and she became close with him.
The victim told detectives that the two started texting, and eventually, the texts turned sexual in nature.
The girl told police that Gilliam made several sexual comments to her, involving how he would have sex with her, as well as a Snapchat photo of him completely nude.
A warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday. As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Gilliam remains at large.
Gilliam’s employment with FWCS was terminated on Aug. 22, 2018.
A spokesperson with FWCS issued Fort Wayne’s NBC this written statement:
“When North Side High School and Fort Wayne Community Schools were made aware of the allegations, police were immediately called to investigate. We take all allegations of such conduct seriously and involve law enforcement and other appropriate agencies to allow for the proper investigation,” FWCS Public Information Officer Krista Stockman said via email.
“FWCS does not tolerate inappropriate behavior with students.”
