Fort Wayne Firefighters pull body from St. Marys River

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Fort Wayne firefighters pulled a body from the St. Marys River Friday afternoon.

Crews with the Fort Wayne Parks Department were in a boat clearing debris from the water when they spotted a tent in the water behind the Three Rivers Luxury Apartments near the Historic Old Fort.

When they went to check it out, they realized that a body was inside, and they called 911.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department water rescue team eventually freed the remains and took it to the boat ramp on Michaels Avenue. The body was then removed from the water and taken to the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center.

According to police at the scene, the victim appears to be male, and investigators believe the body had been in the water for quite some time.

An autopsy will be performed Saturday to learn who the victim is and how the victim died.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and the Allen County Coroner’s office.
