Students learn about civic duty on election day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Their ballots may be unofficial, but students who are taking part in mock elections at schools across the nation are learning about civic duty on this election day.

At J. Wilbur Haley Elementary School in the Fort Wayne Community Schools system, hundreds lined up to cast a ballot.

Teachers took the children through the process of registration, researching the candidates and, finally, voting.

The Haley Elementary School students cast ballots in two races: Indiana’s U.S. Senate contest and the Third Congressional District race.

Similar processes played out at campuses coast to coast.
