Man dead, firefighter injured in Indianapolis house fire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A man has died and a firefighter has been injured in a house fire on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says the man was carried from the burning home Sunday morning but died about two hours later at a hospital. His name hasn’t been released.

Battalion Chief Rita Reith (ryt) says the injured firefighter had just completed cutting a vent hole in the roof when the roof gave way and he fell through the attic to the first floor. He was able to walk from the home assisted by others and went to a hospital to be evaluated. His name also hasn’t been released.

The fire was reported by a person passing by about 8:20 a.m.
