Former CEO of Lutheran Health Network named president of IU Health Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The former CEO of Lutheran Health Network has been named the president of Indiana University Health Fort Wayne.

Brian Bauer has been named the president of Indiana University Health Fort Wayne. He assumed his duties on Jan. 1.

Brian Bauer has been serving as a consultant since IU Health came to Fort Wayne in 2017, but he and his family have lived in Fort Wayne since 2011.

He assumed his duties as president on Jan. 1.

“Brian is a natural fit to lead IU Health in Fort Wayne,” said Ron Stiver, president of IU Health’s System Clinical Services.

”He has a great deal of experience in healthcare leadership, and is deeply committed to ensuring the residents of Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana have access to high quality, personalized care.

Bauer received his undergraduate degree from Butler University in Indianapolis and a Master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.

He served as a member of the transition team for current Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. He has served on the Board of several statewide and local groups including the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, Mad Anthony’s, Indiana Hospital Association, Greater Fort Wayne, Inc., the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and the Northeast Indiana Regional Chamber of Commerce.

In 2013, Bauer received the title of Sagamore of the Wabash, an award given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor of Indiana.

“Anyone who knows Brian knows he is committed to healthcare and his community,” said Ryan Kitchell, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for IU Health, who serves as chairman of the IU Health Fort Wayne Board of Directors.

“I am confident that he is the right person to lead our organization in Fort Wayne as our services grow and expand this year and going forward.”

IU health opened up a primary care office in Fort Wayne last year.

Bauer’s healthcare executive leadership spans more than a decade, having served as chief executive officer for Terre Haute Regional Hospital, and most recently as chief executive officer for Lutheran Hospital/Lutheran Health Network.

Lutheran Health Network and its parent company Community Health Systems settled a lawsuit with Bauer last year for an alleged breach of contract.

Both parties agreed to keep that settlement confidential.
