LaGrange Co. Police: Bicyclist struck twice following hit-and-run

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in providing information after a bicyclist was struck twice after a hit-and-run incident.

Police say 50-year-old Richard D. Bontrager was riding his bike northbound on CR 00 EW from County Road 200 South around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Bontrager was then struck from behind by a vehicle that fled the scene, officers say. He was lying in the nourthbound lane of the road when a second vehicle, a 2003 Ford F-150, hit him.

The driver of the F-150 said he did not see Bontrager before running him over.

Bontrager was transported to Parkview Main in Fort Wayne, and his condition is not known at this time.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding this crash to contact the LaGrange County Sheriff’s at 260-463-7491.
