FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE’S NBC) – The Notre Dame defense rose to the challenge against Virginia, but running back, Tony Jones Jr. certainly impacted the outcome as well.

The Fighting Irish quarterback, Ian Book, did not throw any touchdowns in the air, but the ground game took over, scoring four rushing touchdowns.

Jones accounted for three of those, racking up 131 yards.

Brian Kelly says the use of other players, like Michael Young helps open up the offense, so Jones can go to work.

“When we are able to get C’Bo Flemister in the game and Jamere Smith, it really helped Tony Jones later in the game. Having Michael really helps Chris Finke. it helps all of our other players through the course of a game,
