ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — A now former Adams Central assistant football coach faces several charges after students accused him of sexual misconduct.

According to court documents, Christopher M. Litchfield was an assistant coach and substitute teacher at Adams Central Community Schools for the past few years. Litchfied also allegedly visited students during lunch as part of Campus Life, a religious organization.

In August, one male student allegedly told a football coach that he and some of his friends and fellow students, ages 13-14, were receiving uncomfortable messages from Litchfield. This includes one of the boys telling detectives that Litchfield sent him a text nearly every day saying “I love you” and asking sexual questions.

Another boy said Litchfield would take his friends and him places and buy them food, which Litchfield claimed was part of his job.

The document states some of the boys told detectives that Litchfield touched them in weird ways, even when they told him to stop.

The mother of one of the boys told police that she noticed a strange fascination for her son, and took steps to keep Litchfield away.

One of the counts filed against him accuses Litchfield of criminally entering a boy’s home and watching over him as he slept.

The document states one of the boys also told detectives that Litchfield touched him inappropriately and performed sex acts on him during a span of three months.

Litchfield was preliminarily charged with six counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, five counts of child molesting and one count of residential entry.

Adams Central Superintendent Joel D. Mahaffey sent the following statement on the matter:

Jacob Burbrink contributed to this report.
