Riley walk goal met after story airs highlighting Fort Wayne girl

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — The other night, we told you about 1-year old Gabriella Maher of Fort Wayne.

She’s a Riley Kid, receiving treatment for some heart ailments, who was a guest of honor at last Saturday’s Critical Care Walk-a-Thon at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Gabriella’s father, Alex, works here at the station.

Their team of family members and friends participated in the walk along with several other teams.

The goal for the day?

$20,000 for pediatric critical care research.

The entire group raised close to that amount, almost $19,400 and was so proud, of course.

But?

After our story aired and was posted on our website and Facebook page, Alex tells us that his cousin’s family business offered to meet the financial goal and donated $615!

Alex says everyone was thrilled, including all the folks at the Riley Foundation.

So many families from The Fort are helped by Riley each and every year.

What a kind thing to do, and what a wonderful update to be able to bring you!
