HARLAN, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A man attacked a mother at a Harlan park while two other men attempted to steal her car.

Police said a mother took her kid to Harlan Community Park. Officers said a man on the swings walked over and tried to distract her while two other men attempted to steal her car keys.

Officers said the man asked the woman for food, however, when the woman declined, the man attacked her.

Police officials said the men were unsuccessful in stealing the woman’s car and ran off into the fields near Stopher Road. Officers later found all three men and arrested them.

Two of the men are minors and we aren’t naming them, however, the accused attacker is an adult. Police identified the man as Bronson Filler.

We talked with one woman who lives next to the park. She said she remembers seeing the men walking back and forth before the attack.

“To think they may have been the same ones, that’s really scary,” Nicole Moore, a neighbor said.

Moore said people in the neighborhood know each other. She said there are rarely issues within the community.

“We lived here for about five years and I’ve never seen anything like that happen out here before,” Moore said.

Police said Filler’s court appearance is scheduled for May 22.
