Honor Flight: Families and friends crowd Fort Wayne airport to welcome back Hoosier veterans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – Families and friends across the Summit City crowded the Fort Wayne International Airport to welcome back Hoosier veterans for Honor Flight.

Honor Flight is a program to honor and recognize veterans for their service.

Honor Flight 31 is the first of four flights planned for this year.

The flight flew 84 veterans to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor.

Veterans on the trip included the following:

  • World War II: 4 veterans
  • Vietnam War: 10 veterans
  • Korea War: 63 veterans
  • Cold War: 7 veterans

The flight took off around 7:30 A.M. Wednesday morning and returned back to Fort Wayne around 9:00 P.M.

To date, Honor Flight Northeast Indiana has flown 2,210 veterans to Washington D.C. to reflect upon the memorials built in their honor.
