Norwell Athletics Department apologizes for ‘comments made by an independent on-line commentator’

OSSIAN, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The Norwell High School Athletics Department apologized via Twitter Friday night for “comments made by an independent on-line commentator that was broadcasting the basketball game.”

The Norwell Knights were hosting the Homestead Spartans Friday night in Ossian.  In a broadcast, re-posted on social media, you can hear the announcer say “There’s going to be a technical foul, showboat.”  He then says, “he gets tech-ed up for being a jack***.”

The announcer continues, “Stay classy Homestead, may you lose in the first round like you always do.”

Reaction was swift on Facebook.  Comments included:

  • “No place at any level for those comments and coverage.”
  • “One of the first things I teach is that no matter who the opponent is that fans from that school should be able to hear our broadcast without being offended.”

Another reason why you should listen to high school students call sporting events. This is what happens when biased adults get under the headset. Norwell, an unbelievable school/athletics program with great people, should be ashamed that this guy represents them.
