FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE’S NBC) – Seniors on the Carroll girl’s basketball team were honored at their last regular season home game of the year. This year, although she’s not an upperclassman, Ashley Hoopengardner joined the team center court. It’s evident that she loves basketball.
“She’s always liked anything with a ball. We turn on the TV or we take her to games all the time,” Kristie Hoopengardner, Ashley’s mother said. “She doesn’t care who is playing. She cheers for both sides.”
Mutual love for the game brought Ashley and the Chargers together.
“Everyone wants to be included and be a part of something. That’s what makes it super nice,” Kristie said.
Charger player, Kate Schlatter said, “It was really cool. It made my heart super happy and I know my team was really happy for her and able to give that moment to her and share that moment with her.”
The team tells Fort Wayne’s NBC, they plan to honor somebody special like Ashley each year moving forward.
