One person killed after police say she tried to cross busy highway

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Police tell Fort Wayne’s NBC a pedestrian is dead after she was hit by a car.

It happened on South Lafayette near Walmart around 7 p.m. Dec. 7, 2018.

When police got to the scene they found a woman on the ground.  Paramedics took her to a hospital in critical condition where she later died.

She was later identified as Kimberly K. McCagg, 47, of Fort Wayne.

Police say initial reports say the woman was trying to run across the 4 lanes of the road when she was hit by the car.

Police closed the Northbound lane of Lafayette from Anthony to Tillman during the investigation.

Her death marks the 31st fatal motor vehicle crash this year in Allen County.
