GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Grant County police are investigating after a 2-year-old was found drowned in a pool.
Police say that on Wednesday, July 11, they got a call from a home in the 2000 block of E Bradford Pike in Marion, IN. The call came from a woman who said her 2-year-old granddaughter was found in a pool on her property and wasn’t breathing.
The grandmother, who was watching the child while her father was at work, started CPR while emergency crews were on their way. When crews arrived, they took the child to Marion General Hospital ER where she regained a pulse.
She was then flown to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and was treated for 12 hours. Police said that despite the best efforts from doctors, she died from her injuries.
Investigation showed the girl was playing outside while her grandmother was inside cleaning. Roughly 15-20 minutes passed since the grandmother said she last saw the child. She then found the child alone in the pool. Police said there were stairs into the pool that were not guarded.
At the time of this report, the investigation is ongoing. The names will be released pending the notification of family members.
