Fort Wayne girl to appear on Today Show to talk about Buddy Bench Project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A Fort Wayne 3rd grader is making sure no one feels left out at her school.

9-year-old Sammie Vance started the "Buddy Bench Project."

Sammie says everyone gets lonely sometimes, including herself.

She thought the benches would help create friendships.

Her principal at Haley Elementary School loved the idea and Sammie was determined to make it a reality.

Her mom found a company that turned recycled caps and lids into benches.

400 pounds of caps were needed for one bench.

Donations started pouring in and 3 benches were installed at Sammie’s school, with plenty of other schools wanting benches of their own.

Sammie even received caps for all 50 states!

Sammie and her mom, Heidi, will appear on the Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda on Thursday (May 24).

Make sure you watch!
