NACS board votes to extend mask mandate

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Board members with Northwest Allen County Schools voted to extend their current mask mandate for students and staff all district school buildings.

The board voted 3-2 to extend the resolution requiring masks.

The NACS board met virtually Wednesday night to make their decision about the future of the mask mandate.

The board members first reinstated their mask requirements at their meeting August 30th.

Superintendent Chris Himsel says in the last month they've seen a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases and quarantines.

Himsel says he believes those cases declined because of their mask requirements.

Leaders with NACS say the school board members decided to meet virtually after safety concerns from the Allen County Sheriff's Department during their in-person meetings.

The current mandate will be in place until December 18th.
