FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - The quest to defend the Kelly Cup started at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, as the Fort Wayne Komets jump-started their 2021-22 season with their 70th training camp Monday evening.

Only five players from the franchise's first Kelly Cup champion roster are returning.

"We are looking to the future, but we want to defend that cup," Komets third-year forward Matthew Boudens said.

"I think we have a great group of guys in here, a good group of hockey players too, so we are looking forward to getting camp started. It starts now. There's lots of turnover but we have a great group here, and we are excited to get going."

The 70th anniversary regular season of the Komets, along with the championship ring ceremony, will begin at the Jungle on October 23, 2021 at 7:35 p.m.
