FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) -Beginning at seven Saturday morning was a horseback ride to bring attention to the problem of veteran suicide.
Veterans from BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center out of Illinois are riding to raise awareness about the problem and to raise funds for equine-assisted activities and therapies benefitting veterans who deal with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health challenges.
The trail is started at St. John's Lutheran Church on the southeast side of town and will make five stops, including ones at Parkview Field and the University of Saint Francis.
The ride is 20 miles long because statistics show every day about 20 military veterans in the U.S. take their own life.
Former Vice-President Pence is also set to be on horseback at this event starting at Buckner Park and ride to the end at the Veterans Memorial Shrine on O'Day Road.
We will have a crew on the scene to provide live coverage of the event.
