FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) -- Southwest Allen County School Board members took up the issue of mask wearing in schools at Tuesday night's meeting and voted to keep masks optional for students and staff.
However, they did approve a measure to prevent quarantining for close contacts who wear a mask.
Board members and SACS Superintendent Dr. Park Ginder say the school's team will look into the legality of that part of their decision.
Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter and Governor Eric Holcomb have both recently said that masks should be required in schools again because they are effective in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
Fort Wayne Community Schools have had a mask mandate since the beginning of the year.
Northwest Allen County Schools officials enacted a mandate recently that is scheduled to be lifted October 14.
And, East Allen County Schools officials decided against implementing a mask mandate during a board meeting Tuesday night.
