ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - East Allen County Schools officials will not require masks inside school buildings for the time being.

The school board voted 4 to 3 against the district's revised 'Return to School Plan' Tuesday night.

That means masks will remain optional.

The revised 'Return to School Plan' originally called for:

  • Mask mandate for students, faculty, staff & visitors inside all school buildings beginning Sept. 13 through Oct. 14.
  • The mask rules would also apply to field trips
  • Anyone partaking in after-school events indoors

The use of masks in the revised plan would have also reduced the quarantine time for students and staff as it would have allowed those in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 to not have to quarantine if they're not showing symptoms.

Again, mask protocols will remain the same at East Allen County Schools.
