TOKYO (Fort Wayne's NBC) -American swimmer Bobby Finke pulled off a remarkable comeback win for gold in the first ever men's 800 meter freestyle final.

Finke was a long-shot to even medal in the event and was in fifth place as he made the final turn, but it was after that final turn that all the magic happened.

The 21-year-old Florida Gator swam like one in the final 50 meters, out sprinting his opponents for the win.

He beat silver medalist, Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri, by a fraction of a second.
