FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - Saint Francis was known for slow starts this season and on Saturday it caught up to them, losing to Marian 41-34.

The Cougars moved the ball down the field, but failed to reach the end zone in the first half, going into the break down 20 to 3.

Matt Crable threw four touchdowns in the second half, but the comeback falls short.

Marian quiets the crowd at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium with a touchdown in the last minute and a half of the fourth quarter.

The loss proved to be the final game of the season after the NAIA selection committee leaves the Cougars out of the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Saint Francis ends the 2021 spring season 2-2, but learned the valuable lesson of handling adversity throughout the year.

"The team is never going to quit. I couldn't be more proud of how much this team has fought. We never quit, we never laid down," Crable said.
