FORT WAYNE, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - Ayanna Patterson received her first Division I basketball offer before entering high school.
A time went on, she garnered a lot more attention from Division I coaches.
As a Homestead junior, Patterson chooses between 50 different schools and ranks 3rd in the class of 2022.
As a video played behind her at the McMillen Park Community Center, she watched her families and friends react to her commitment: University of Connecticut.
Patterson's face lit up as she unzipped her jacket to reveal her Huskies shirt.
"It's just to have an answer to the question, I'm going to UConn," she said.
Patterson's top five included: Louisville, Notre Dame, UConn, Indiana and UCLA.
Patterson expressed developing as a college player is one of her top priorities and believes Geno Auriemma is the coach that can get her to where she wants to be.
"The coaching staff, basketball really speaks for itself. Their program is one of the greatest women's programs in the country. Being able to be there and play in front of their fan base is everything,"
Patterson wants to work on her leadership skills during her senior year at Homestead.
