Young launches reelection run

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Todd Young will campaign for a second term in the U.S. Senate.

The Indiana Republican announced his intentions via video on Tuesday. The move was widely expected.

Young's term expires in January 2023.

The Republican from Bloomington defeated Democrat Evan Bayh in 2016 and is likely to be the heavy favorite in both the primary and general election.

No major candidate has declared a challenge at this point, and all of Indiana's statewide offices are held by Republicans.

In his announcement, Young positioned himself as a check on President Joe Biden and the Democratic agenda, and said he would "see that America and Indiana are rebuilt, not remade, to suit a bottom-up vision for our society, not a top-down vision.”
