New Haven father charged in baby’s death

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The father of a 17-month-old baby is being charged in connection with the death of his daughter.

The New Haven Police Department said in the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 25, the father dropped off the child at a Fort Wayne fire station.

The father said he found the baby girl was unresponsive at his home in the 6000 block of Moeller Road. Medics took the child to the hospital where she later died.

Following an autopsy, the Allen County Coroner’s Office said Kaivonni Lynn Vachon died from blunt force injuries to the abdomen, and her death was ruled the county’s 7th homicide.

The girl’s father, 31-year-old Michael Allen, is preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and aggravated battery. Both are felony charges.
