LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – The LaGrange community is grieving the loss of two brothers who died in a single-car crash Thursday evening.
Family, friends, classmates, teammates, teachers and coaches are mourning the deaths of 16-year-old Tyler and his 14-year-old brother Chace Curtis.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said Tyler was driving home Thursday evening when his car went over a hill too fast. The car lost control, hit a tree nearly head-on causing the vehicle to split in half.
Tyler died from his injuries, and medics airlifted his younger brother to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition.
The boy later died Friday afternoon.
Tyler and Chace were both members of the Prairie Heights High School wrestling and baseball team.
The school’s superintendent Jeff Reed sent out a letter to parents and said counselors will be on hand in the coming days.
The day after the crash, mourners gathered at the scene of the accident to lay flowers at the base of the tree to pay their respects.
The crash remains under investigation.
