FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - A man was pulled from the partially frozen St. Marys River Wednesday evening after he apparently fell through a thin layer of ice.
The rescue took place near Swinney Park.
A witness called for help and said someone was trapped in the water.
Fort Wayne firefighters were able to get the man to land and he was taken to a local hospital.
His condition and identity were not immediately available.
Two days of temperatures well above freezing have melted the snow and thinned the ice in northeast Indiana. The warmer conditions follow several weeks of below-freezing temperatures.
