Man identified in Thursday night shooting on Werling Drive

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was found with an apparent gunshot wound Thursday night.

Officers were called to the 4600 block of Werling Drive for an unknown problem around 11:19 p.m. 

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they found a man in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers were told that several callers reported a man in the street and reported hearing gun shots just prior to seeing the man.

Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

According to the Allen County Coroner's Office, the man was identified to be 34-year-old Elgin Markeith Davis of Fort Wayne.

The coroner's office says they have notified the next of kin for Davis.

Reports say the cause of death has been determined to be from a gunshot wound. The manner of the death has been ruled a homicide.

Elgin Markeith Davis is the 41st Homicide in Allen County for 2020.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
