FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — One man is dead after colliding with a box truck near Coliseum Boulevard and Vance Avenue following an overnight police pursuit.

Friday morning shortly before 4 a.m., Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a domestic investigation at a residence located in the 2600 block of Kenwood Ave.

When they got there, the man involved was gone but they spotted him driving in a vehicle near the home.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect as he left the area at a high rate of speed. He failed to stop as officers activated their emergency lights and siren on their fully marked squad cars. He then led officers on a very short chase before officers ended the pursuit as he continued traveling eastbound on Vance at a high rate of speed.

As the driver approached the intersection of Coliseum Blvd and Vance Ave, he disregarded a red light at the intersection and collided with a truck that was traveling northbound on Coliseum. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

The identity of the deceased driver will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroners Office. Investigators with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s FACT Team was dispatched to the scene to process the scene.

Intersections that are currently closed are Coliseum Blvd from State to Hobson and Vance Ave from Inwood to Farnsworth.
