WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Health officials closed a Bluffton BBQ restaurant late Friday afternoon following warnings related to the owner's refusal to abide by government mask rules.

Yergy's State Road BBQ posted on its Facebook page that it was visited by Wells County Health Department workers shortly after 4 p.m. and was shut down.

"We are deeply saddened but joy fills our hearts," the post reads. "God is faithful. Thank you everyone for your support. We really are grateful."

The restaurant said it would provide added information in a news release to follow.

The county health department closed at 4:30 p.m. and has not commented on the development.

Matt Yergler, who owns the restaurant, has been outspoken about his opposition to government-mandated rules regarding face coverings and has stated that he will not require his employees to wear a mask.

Yergler made his position clear at a recent Wells County Board of Health meeting, where he read a prepared statement opposing the mask requirement and left to applause from dozens of supporters.

Health department officials have warned that failing to enforce the mask rules could lead to action against a restaurant.
