NEW HAVEN, Ind. (FORT WAYNE'S NBC) - Following a second half surge in 2019, New Haven Bulldogs football feels like it has the right mix and momentum heading into the fall of 2020.
Junior quarterback Jakar Williams enters his second year starting under center, aided by a strong receiving corps led by Lane Woodson III.
"His arm has gotten a lot strong," Woodson III said at practice.
Head coach Jimmy Linn pointed to the air attack as a primary reason for New Haven's second half success and agrees Williams is growing at a rapid rate.
"He put a ton of time in during the offseason at developing his arm strength and working on those small things to help improve his game," Linn said.
The defense brings back plenty of experience with an extra bite.
"We've really got a lot of hard-hitters," Linn said.
"Our linebacking corps is as strong as its ever been."
Linebacker D'Andre Wright looks to put the clamps on any and all opposing offenses.
"Just ready to come to hit," Wright said.
"We've got a lot of guys who are big, physical and fast."
The Bulldogs open up their season at Garrett on August 21, 2020.
