FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - According to the Allen County Coroner's Office, the death of a Fort Wayne man who was battered in a Walmart Parking lot earlier this year has been ruled a homicide.

Demarcus Walker, 44 year-old man of Fort Wayne, was battered in a Walmart parking lot at the 1700 block of Apple Glen Blvd, on March 7, 2020.

The coroner's office has completed the autopsy and representatives from the office have reached out to the victim's family.

The cause of death has been determined to be tracheal narrowing and cerebral edema and hemorrhage due to complications from blunt force injuries of the head. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

On Saturday, March 7th, police said Levi Arnold drove his car into DeMarcus Walker in a Walmart parking lot in Fort Wayne. Officers said Arnold got out of his vehicle and beat Walker with a baseball bat.

Police said Arnold picked someone at random.

Family members said Walker was running an errand at Walmart.

"He was just out to buy jogging pants and body wash," said Dereck Walker, the victim's younger brother.

Dereck said he cannot understand why someone would do this to a complete stranger.

"Who would do such a thing to a guy that doesn't bother anyone," Dereck Walker said.
