WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Columbia City residents will be gathering Wednesday evening for a peaceful vigil in remembrance of George Floyd.
The event is planned for 7 to 8 p.m. At the Whitley County Courthouse, 101 W Van Buren St.
“During this vigil, we want to honor those who have been killed by police brutality and provide education on how we can move forward as a community and as a nation,” the event's Facebook page says.
Their tentative schedule is as follows:
- 7 p.m. - Welcome and Call for Peace
- 7:15 p.m. - Speakers
- 7:45 p.m. - Reading of Names/ Moment of Silence
- 7:50 p.m. - Closing Song
- 8 p.m. - Disperse
The first speaker of the evening is Alisha Rauch, the Fort Wayne native who organized the first protest for George Floyd in the Fort.
Organizers encourage participants to wear masks and practice social distancing.
