This Memorial Day weekend won't feel quite the same, as the Greatest Spectacle in Racing is postponed until August 23, 2020, but NBC is still keeping Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May with a special presentation of 'Indy 500 Special: Back Home Again.'
The four-hour made-for-tv event will rev up at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, beginning with a stirring rendition of 'God Bless America.'
Dr. Elvis Francois and Dr. William Robinson will perform in honor of the frontline heroes, during the coronavirus pandemic.
Soon following, an enhanced, encore presentation of the 2019 race will be hosted by NBC's Mike Tirico.
"So much of May in the state of Indiana is about pulling people together," Senior VP of Events at IMS Allison Melangton said to Fort Wayne's NBC, via ZOOM.
Melangton says 'Indy 500: Back Home Again' will be a great way to do just that.
