House fire leaves one person dead early Saturday morning

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Fort Wayne Firefighters responded to a residential fire early Saturday morning where one person was found dead in the home.

At around 3:16 a.m. firefighters were sent to a residential fire on the 1300 block of Fay Drive.

When officials arrived, police confirmed there was a possible person inside.

Firefighters pulled a hand line to go inside and search for occupants in the two story home.

Crews said they immediately located a victim who they determined was deceased and continued their search knocking down fire on the way through.

Firefighters say conditions worsened and crews had to evacuate with a partial floor collapse.

According to officials, it was determined that nobody else was in the home which sustained major damage.

Crews say they got the fire under control in 30 minutes and will remain on scene to control hotspots.

This incident is still under investigation.
