FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - A Fort Wayne local grocery store is making use of its resources to help protect workers and customers amid coronavirus concerns.
The coronavirus is impacting several businesses where companies such as Walmart, Costco, Kroger, etc. have made adjustments to help their workers and customers.
However, how is the virus impacting locally owned grocery stores in Fort Wayne where resources may be more limited?
Fort Wayne's NBC stopped by Rang Dong Supermarket to learn more on Wednesday. The Vietnamese grocery store is located at 3030 North Clinton Street in Fort Wayne.
The store owner told Fort Wayne's NBC that the safety of his workers and customers are his top priorities.
He said all of his workers are required to wear disposable gloves and to practice social distancing. The owner said his employees have been working overtime in order to clean and sanitize the store every day.
"Safety is number one," said James Baker III, store owner. "Everywhere we go. Whatever you do."
Baker said business has also been busy for the past several weeks.
"I go pick up supplies twice a week," Baker said. "Now I go three times a week."
Fort Wayne's NBC talked with customers to get their thoughts. A customer said he appreciates the safety measures and believes it's important to support local businesses during this time.
"Everyone is struggling right now, trying to keep people in work, trying to keep food on the table," said Kealan McGlade, a customer.
"We have to help them (local businesses) throughout the hard time," said Kelvin Tran, a customer. "I think helping out right now is a good choice."
However, personal shoppers weren't the only ones showing support. Other local business owners were also supporting the local grocery store.
"I feel like our community has really banded together to support local and that's made me feel incredibly happy about Fort Wayne," said Brittany George, owner of Savery Vegan Grill.
