FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - A Fort Wayne pharmacy is offering curbside pick-up for customer orders in order to limit customers' exposure to COVID-19.

Fort Wayne Custom RX is located at 425 E Dupont Road in Fort Wayne.

The owner of the pharmacy said the new service began on Wednesday.

"We don't want our patients getting sick, and we certainly don't want our staff getting sick," said Dr. Gregg Russell, the owner of Fort Wayne Custom RX.

Russell said customers can order their medication ahead of time via phone and an employee of the pharmacy will bring the order to the customers' car in the parking lot.

The owner said his team has been practicing social distancing, however, the new change allows his workers and customers to operate in a safer environment.

"To inform them (customers) that that we are really trying to practice social distancing, and we want them to take this serious too," Russell said.

Fort Wayne's NBC talked with a couple of employees to get their thoughts about the change.

"I feel extra safe... we want to show that we are doing this for everyone's safety, but we still have a job to get done, and that's taking care of our patients," said Kylee Baker, an employee at the pharmacy.

Fort Wayne's NBC talked with a customer, who was picking up medication, about the new service.

"I'm glad the pharmacy is stepping up and doing what they need to keep us (customers) safe during the required transactions that we have to make," said Chris Alexander, a customer.

The owner said the pharmacy will continue to offer curbside pick-up as long as they need to in order to help keep the community safe.
