Family, friends host vigil for teenager who was shot and killed

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Loved ones hosted a vigil for a teenager who was shot and killed last week.

Police said 15-year-old Eric McDonnell was beaten and shot in an alley near McKee and Euclid Avenue in Fort Wayne.

Officers said this happened on Wednesday night after 7 P.M.

Police said first responders rushed McDonnell to a hospital, but he later died.

On Sunday evening, family members and friends hosted a vigil next to the Allen County Jail for McDonnell.

"It's amazing to see all of this (support at vigil). It really is," said Tiffany Smith, mother of victim. "He is really loved. One thing is that my kid was really loved. Really loved. He's got all of these people. Look at all these people."

Family members said they wanted to remember McDonnell and the life he lived.

"He was very loved. It's sad," Smith said. "It's sad that none of us get to hear his voice again or see him again."

The vigil started at 8 P.M.

More than 30 people came out to the event.
