FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Fort Wayne's semi-professional soccer team named their new head coach and this year's game schedule.

Mike Avery, formerly of NCAA D1 Valparaiso University and the University of Notre Dame, will be the club's first head coach.

He's earned multiple coaching licenses including an NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, USSF “B” License and USSF “A” License.

The club says his leadership will be instrumental in building a successful and competitive program in the Fort.

Fort Wayne FC is set to begin play next May and will be part of the Great Lakes Conference of the National Premier Soccer League.

The inaugural match is set for May 23 where they'll play Toledo Villa FC at home.

Fort Wayne FC's home stadium will be Shields Field, Bishop Dwenger High School's brand new stadium.

This venue can host 2,600 home fans and has 600 seats for visitors.

The owners say the team will generate a positive economic impact on the city and bring in soccer enthusiasts to the area.

A women’s league is set to begin in 2022.
