Woman charged with murder in Abbott St. shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) — Murder charges have been formally filed against the 19-year-old woman arrested in the fatal Abbott St. shooting.

Police arrested Kennisha Jackson last week for her involvement in the fatal shooting of Diquan Meriwether, 19, near Abbott and Pontiac Streets Jan. 14.

Jackson was preliminarily charged with aggravated battery, but prosecutors filed a formal charge of murder against her on Tuesday.

Police say a woman called 911 Jan. 14 to report that Meriwether had been shot on Abbott Street and was driving him to the hospital.

Medics caught up with the vehicle at Vance Avenue and Santa Lisa Court and took over the transport, but Meriwether did not survive his wounds.

The Allen County coroner has ruled it the second homicide of the year.

Police believe a fight involving money triggered the violence.
